American Legion Post 77

Base Ball Manager

Tammy Pohl has resigned after two years of excellent work on behalf of the baseball team. For many years the baseball program was run by Frank Eakle, and after he was unable to continue, it was struggling. Tammy picked up the pieces and laid down the framework for us to continue. In addition to laying down the framework, she established the Frank Eakle Memorial tournament that we hope to continue for many years to come. When Tammy took on this role she committed to 2 years, and even now she is committed to helping the next manager.

We are now looking new manager to continue the program. If you know of anyone suitable, please contact Al Castillo. It is not necessary for the baseball manager or coaches to be a member of the legion, or a veteran.

Will wins the laser pistol competition

On Friday 25th September, we held our 3rd laser pistol shooting competition at the post. The final was between Will Anderson and Patty Smith, who had faced each other in the first competition with Patty being the winner in a tense final. This was a return match. As the shooting progressed first one, and then the other was in the lead. In the end Will won by hitting the fifth and final target barely 2 seconds before Patty.

For those who want to have fun keep your eye open for competition number 4, to be announced.

Stand Down Booth

The annual Sacramento stand-down was held from 24th to 26th September at Mather Field Air Base in Sacramento. This is an event that where state and federal agencies, plus many local non-profit organizations provide help and support to our many homeles veterans and those at risk of becoming homeless. District 6 distributed clothes, hygienic supplies and other needed materials to the many veterans who passed through. Our Post 77 Auxiliary participated fully in collecting donated clothing, and in purchasing other supplies, including 60 ponchos.

On Friday 25th they were at the booth assisting with the event.

9/11 Ceremony At The Fire Department

Woodland Fire Department invited all our members to a ceremony at Woodland Fire Station 3 to remember 25 years since 9/11. The Woodland police Department, Yolo County Sheriff's Department and the California Highway Patrol participated in a moving tribute along with Woodland Fire Department. membrance.

The commemoration began at 7:50am and because of this our volunteers had to start before 6am in order to place the flags along Main Street and still have time to attend the ceremony.

Flag Ceremony at Spring Lake School

On 4th September four of our honor guard members, Vince Olvera, John Flores, Fred Bryner and Les Murillo, participated in a flag folding and flag raising ceremony at Spring Lake Elementary School in Woodland. This was part of a morning awards ceremony and allowed us to show the students how to respect and honor our National Flag. This appears to be becoming an annual event.
