Dr. Altamirano is a Marine Corps Veteran. He has been serving Yolo - Post 77, and other Posts in the surrounding Yolo & Sacramento Counties, for over a year. He holds a Doctor of Social Work and Master in Public Administration degrees from the University of Southern California (USC), and a Bachelor's degree in Government from Sacramento State University. Dr. Altamirano is a long time Legionnaire with Yolo - Post 77 along with his deceased grandfather (WWII Marine Veteran), his father (ARMY Vietnam Veteran), and uncles (ARMY & NAVY Vietnam Veterans).
